How do I know if I’m eligible?

To qualify for a free Home Energy Assessment, you must receive electric, natural gas or combination (electric and natural gas) service from Consumers Energy. You can participate if you live in a single-family home, mobile home, apartment or condo with four or fewer connected units. If you’ve participated in the last five years, you are not eligible.

What happens during the Home Energy Assessment?

A professional will come to your home and install energy saving products. After that, we will provide you with a report containing additional tips on how to lower your energy bill. If an in-person appointment doesn’t work for you, we also offer online assessments.

How long does the Home Energy Assessment take?

The appointment may take up to 90 minutes.

Does it cost anything?

The program is provided at no cost to qualified customers. We will provide you with energy saving products and tips on how you can save more on your energy bill.

Can I cancel or reschedule my appointment?

Yes, you may cancel or reschedule your visit at any time.

Program funds are limited to and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Eligibility for each measure is determined at the time of the appointment and may vary based on the service type, the home’s heating system and the type of water heater. To be eligible, the location where the assessment is performed must receive electric, natural gas and/or combination (natural gas and electric) service from Consumers Energy and the account number must be active. Past participation in the Home Energy Assessment or Helping Neighbors Programs precludes account number from participation in the program. For in-home assessments, an adult 18 years or older must be present at the time of the appointment.
